Becos Effects introduces two-knob CompIQ Mini One Pro Compressor
Becos Effects has expanded its CompIQ range with the Mini One Pro Compressor. Tailored for both guitar and bass, this pedal lets you achieve studio-grade compression through a set of simple controls.
Like its larger siblings, the Mini One is formulated around a THAT Corp Analog Engine, which caters for high-quality VCA dynamic processing. The pedal’s studio-like compression is derived from a partnership between two components: a true RMS-level sensor and a Blackmer voltage controlled amplifier (VCA).
As mentioned earlier, the Mini One only has two main knobs: ratio and gain. Apart from these, there are a dry/wet mix button and a Sense threshold switch boasting two preset levels: low and high. The former is fixed at -40dB, while the latter can be set – via an internal trimmer – in a range from -40dB to +10dB.
Owing to its two-knob format, the Mini One doesn’t have familiar attack and release controls found on conventional compressors. These are replaced by a Dynamic Auto Attack & Release Timing circuit, which adapts to the input signal envelope to render “perfect timings for any playing style”, according to Becos.
Elsewhere, you’ll also notice the Mini One doesn’t have a Compression Knee switch found on larger CompIQ pedals. This is because Becos’ latest compressor arrives with a pre-determined ‘knee’ setting designed to give you what the brand calls “subtle and transparent effect application”.
Rounding out the pedal’s features are true bypass routing and a useful five-LED display, the latter of which provides visual feedback on how much your signal is being reduced when compression is applied.
