Shergold Guitars enters the single-cut fray with new Provocateur line

Shergold Guitars is making waves once again with the launch of its new Provocateur line – the brand’s first-ever single-cut design.

In 2017, following a revival thanks to Barnes & Mullins and luthier Patrick James Eggle, Shergold unveiled the Masquerader guitars. Building on the popularity of that series, Eggle was inspired to create a single-cut guitar that wasn’t just another “clone”. The result is the Provocateur, featuring a “truly vintage” 24.625-inch scale length, two pickup configurations and three finish options.

In the tonewood department, Provocateur axes feature a solid mahogany body, roasted mahogany neck and 12-inch-radius Macassar ebony fingerboard with aluminium inlays. Electronics, on the other hand, come in the form of Seymour Duncan humbuckers. As mentioned, there are two options:
SP01-SD: P-90 (neck) and a Pearly Gates (bridge)
SP02-SD: Two x ‘59 humbuckers (neck and bridge)
In both pickup configurations, you’ll find a master volume knob, master tone knob with push/pull coil-splitting and a three-way pickup selector.

Elsewhere, the axe is anchored by a custom bridge designed by Eggle himself. It also sports staggered, locking machine heads that give the guitar a retro look. Rounding out the Provocateurs’ aesthetic appearance is a one-of-a-kind scratchplate shape.
Available in Thru-Black, Solid Battleship Grey and Thru-Dirty Blonde.
The Provocateur SP01-SD retails at £829, and the SP02-SD for £809. More info at shergoldguitars.com.
