Fano TC6 and RC6 Standards: Retro guitars hand-built in the US, for less

Although the new TC6 and RB6 are part of Fano’s lower-priced “Standard” series, they are both handmade in the USA by the same team that builds the upmarket Alt De Facto versions. With a range of colours and some nifty styling, they’re a welcome addition to the company’s line-up.

TC6 Standard

The TC6 Standard is obviously inspired by the Fender Telecaster. Fano, however, has created its own version of a String Thru Alder body with a twisted pickguard that would not look out of place on a Danelectro. This model sports a pair of FanoTron humbuckers with “sweet vintage sparkle” and “warm overtones”.  Also on the spec sheet are a maple neck with ‘60s C profile, compound radius Indian Rosewood fingerboard from 7.25 to 9.5 “and 22 Jescar 6105 Nickel/Steel frets.

The Fano TC6 standard costs 1999 USD and you can choose between eight different nitro finishes.

RB6 Standard

The RB6 Standard is slightly more unusual, looking a little like the “old” RB6 in a Rickenbacker vein. In addition to the characteristic cutaways and the huge, angled headstock, this also includes the somewhat abruptly curved maple top, sometimes referred to as a “German carve top”.

It is equipped with an Alder body and a maple ’50s round back neck, a fretboard of Indian rosewood with 22 Jescar 6105 Nickel/Steel frets and a compound radius of 10 to 16 “. This is strongly vintage styled and in keeping with the aesthetic appeal you’d associate with the Fano brand. It has a wrap around bridge and two Fano Soapbar P90s with plastic covers, matching the nitro finish, in either cream, black or metallic.

The RB6 standard costs 1999 USD and, again, is available in eight nitro finishes.

Both guitars certainly look the part and it is really nice to see the costs coming down on these models. Okay, so you don’t get as many custom options as on the Alt De Facto models, but there’s a wider colour palette on offer and, crucially, they are all built in the US.
