Gold Media introduces new team for Music Instrument News

Starting today, Gold Media & Events Ltd, welcomes experienced editors, journalists and product specialists into the fold, with regards to the UK’s only dedicated MI trade online publication, Music Instrument News. Gary Cooper,  editor of MIN since its launch, has stepped down with immediate effect. Widely known throughout the MI trade, Gary will remain in contact with GME, so you may have not seen the last of him yet. “I would like to thank Gary for all of his efforts and hard work during his tenure as editor”, states Neil Golding, owner and publisher of Music Instrument News, as well as consumer titles, Drummer’s Review, Acoustic Review, and the recently launched Bass Guitar Review and organiser of The UK Drum Show and The UK Bass Guitar Show, new for 2020.

With any change, it has proved useful to reflect and analyse what MIN is currently offering to its trade subscribers and readers, and with this, GME is introducing the following MI experts who will be reaching out to businesses for regular monthly features and interviews, along with serving MIN with all relevant news to our established trade audience database.

Andy Hughes – New Features Editor at Music Instrument News

Andy Hughes has been a professional freelance journalist for almost forty years. He has contributed to over one hundred titles around the world, including NME, Melody Maker, Zig Zag, Kerrang!, Creem, Downbeat, and too many others to mention.

In his career, Andy has covered virtually every style of music and has written extensively for technical magazines including Musician and Recording World, Acoustic, Drummer, Guitarist, Guitar Buyer, and Rhythm. He currently contributes to a number of technical magazines and websites.

Resident in the Midlands city of Stoke-on-Trent, Andy remains in convenient reach of most of the major cities in the UK, and can be in London in less than two hours by non-stop train.

Nick Carter – Drums and Percussion Specialist

When it comes to expertise in their chosen field, our drums and percussion specialist Nick Carter has a wealth of knowledge gathered over a 20+ year career in the music industry.

Nick’s impressive C.V. includes touring, recording and performing with artists as diverse as Jimmy Osmond (solo), The Osmond Brothers (Jimmy, Jay and Merrill), Swans In Flight, Charlie Green, TM Stevens, Craig Milverton, Emily Penny, Marco Mendoza, Doug Wimbish, Derek Nash, Martin Dale, Bruce Adams, Alan Barnes, Lee Gibson, Jeff Berlin + Many More…

Alongside this, Nick is also a highly respected educator having taught a wide variety of students throughout his career as well as writing a range of critically acclaimed tuition books and contributing monthly tuition-focussed articles to several drum magazines worldwide.

Thanks to his dedication and knowledge of all things drum-related, Nick is also an experienced music journalist, having previously held the title of editor of Drummer magazine (2012-2014) where he conducted interviews with the biggest names in drumming as well as reviewed the freshest new gear available on the market and devised features aimed squarely at inspiring and educating the next generation of players. He is currently product demonstrator and online editor for new international website Drummer’s Review, where the freshest new gear available on the drumming market is reviewed in an unbiased, honest way.

Ben Morgan-Brown adds his acoustic experience to MIN
Ben Morgan-Brown is a writer and musician based in Exeter, Devon.
After completing a degree in Media Writing at Southampton Solent University, he spent several years playing in bands and working at Tin Pan Alley Studios on Denmark Street in London.
Moving to Devon in 2009, he began work at world-renowned Mansons Guitar Shop, eventually becoming Sales Manager. During his time at the store he attended factory tours for Fender and Taylor guitars, as well as receiving specialist training from Martin Guitars, Marshall Amplification, Roland, and Line 6/Yamaha amongst others.
Leaving Mansons in 2017, he now presents videos for Acoustic Review and performs as a singer/songwriter/guitarist as a solo and accompanying musician, as well as writing for several online magazines specialising in folk music.
With experience of music instrument retail from both sides of the counter, and working both on and offstage in the music industry, he has a wealth of knowledge on acoustic guitars and the challenges facing both retailers and musicians in today’s economy. 
Kevin Sanders brings it with all things low-end

Kevin Sanders has been a professional bassist for over twenty five years. As well as numerous BBC radio and television sessions, he’s played well over 4000 live performances, appearing all over the world from Brussels to Broadway.

He has gigged and recorded with some of the greatest musicians and soloists around, from the finest of the British jazz scene, working with the likes of singer Clare Teal and legendary saxophonist Pete King, to playing and recording with musicians as diverse as the Levellers, award-winning Korean classical pianist Ingrid Wu and American legends the Osmonds.

In 2004 he was appointed Head of Bass Studies for AMS: a group of music academies across the UK. He regularly visited each, giving master-classes to the bass students who study either a two-year Btec course or a full time, BA Honours Degree course, both of which he wrote and developed (to edexcel specification) including all compositions, transcriptions and adaptations of music for bass. He’s also taught at Kevics School in Devon and Dartington College of Arts.

He’s been featured in a series of bass tuition DVDs, has played for many theatre productions and regularly writes equipment reviews and a monthly teaching column for Bass Guitar Magazine.

He was also a regular contributer to Drummer magazine and has written numerous articles on contemporary bass playing for several other magazines and websites.
