Weighing just 272 grams, Ashdown’s new The Tone Pocket is the UK maker’s most compact pre-amplifier to date and is designed for practice, home studio and stage applications – with practical features including 3 band EQ, line input (to connect to a smart phone or music player) and a headphone output.

The Tone Pocket lets a user connect his music device via the line-in, plug in a bass and monitor through headphones with a sound specially optimised for bass guitar. Ashdown says: ‘The Tone Pocket enhances the sound of  music delivered via your smart phone, offering more power with increased clarity and tone’.

A simple rotary 3-band EQ controls the Bass, Mids & Highs, offering +/- 15dB on each band, while the rear panel features a USB recording output for use with a DAW, recorded with digital conversion. When active, the USB socket also doubles as a charger for desktop use, keeping the unit charged via USB 5.1v -2.1A.

The Tone Pocket is powered by a rechargeable 9v battery (which can be changed if required), providing approx. 8 hours playing time. The unit also comes supplied with its own 10v DC power supply (centre pin negative) for mains charging, as well as a 12v in car power supply for use with a 12v car socket (centre pin positive). The Tone Pocket’s balanced line output (on the rear) of the allows for connection to an amplifier or PA system.

Measuring in at 26mm (H) 108mm (W) and 95mm (D), The Tone Pocket fits in a  back pocket, or a gig-bag or is unobtrusive on a desktop. The Tone Pocket is constructed with a light weight black anodised alloy with diamond polished detailing.
