Summer NAMM 2017 – MXR Carbon Copy Deluxe Delay

Summer NAMM 2017 – MXR Carbon Copy Deluxe Delay

MXR’s new Carbon Copy Deluxe Delay pedal offers you double the fun of their regular Carbon Copy model. With more of everything, we all loved about the original green analogue delay pedal and now finally including a tap tempo facility!

Carbon Copy Deluxe

The original Carbon Copy delay from 2008 was a huge hit for MXR and had many players throwing their money at dealers to buy one. This BBD/Bucket Brigade style analogue delay has been something guitarists have always loved, but unfortunately had been left by the side of the road with the ’80s digital delay revolution.

A little too late?

With twice as much delay time as the original Carbon Copy, it has been raised to 1.2 seconds, which is quite good for an analogue pedal, plus tap tempo and four different delay subdivisions available.

The pedal also now get an expression jack for external control for controlling certain parameters and has some ability to handle programmable presets, though MXR’s main site is currently a bit vague on any actual details of these at the moment.

On paper this new version looks pretty good in specification terms, my only gripe is that it is about 5 years too late to the party.

Surely MXR should have released one of these back in 2012?

Saturation

Nowadays you have so many great analogue delay pedals and so the market place is a different place in 2017 than it was back in 2008 when the original pedal was released. These last few months we have had announcements from DOD with their Rubberneck Delay and of course, AnalogMan has been making their ARDX20 for quite a few years now (great pedal, I owned one for a while), which many players consider being one of the best modern day analogue delay pedals.

Pricing has yet to be confirmed and this I believe will be what makes or breaks the popularity of this product, as I am assuming it will sound decent enough.

Of course, you can check out the demo video below and get a good overview of the pedal for yourselves.

RRP – TBC due October
