Music Venue Trust introduces fundraising arm Fightback to save live music scene

The charity aims to raise £100,000 across 100 UK events in 2018

UK charity Music Venue Trust (MVT) has launched a fundraising arm Fightback to help the fight to save struggling music venues.

Fightback will invite MVT’s association of venues, the 360-strong Music Venue Alliance, to organise live music events throughout the year in support of the charity’s work.

The gigs will take place at grassroots music venues in Milton Keynes, Blackpool, Bradford and Stoke-on-Trent in February in association with Openstage.

Fightback events manager Gary Prosser explains: “Fightback has been more than a year in the making and I am looking forward to working closely with every grassroots music venue in the UK to create some memorable shows for fans of live music all over the UK. We’re building an incredible opportunity for artists and brands to come together to directly connect with grassroots music venues and make a real difference”.

Fightback aims to raise £100,000 from over 100 events in 2018 across the UK. The money raised will directly support MVT’s Emergency Response service, which in 2017 directly intervened to tackle and halt threats of closure faced by 41 grassroots music venues.

The charity worked with UK Music in 2017 to introduce the Agent of Change principle into planning law, which was promised by Housing and Communities Secretary Sajid David in January 2018.
