New V-Drums, Keytar and Juno synth in major Roland launch

Just a few days after the opening of its new Artist Relations Centre in London, Roland sprung a surprise product launch on Thursday, announcing a new entry-level electronic drum kit, the TD-1DMK, the 76-note JUNO-DS synthesiser and the AX7-Edge Keytar.

The TD-1DMK is an entry-level electronic drum kit with Roland’s double-mesh pads and education features courtesy of onboard coach functions and free Melodics for V-Drums training software for Mac/Windows. Roland says the package: ‘…makes it an ideal choice for beginning drummers and practicing students, as well as adults who want to get back into drumming later in life. Delivering a fulfilling drumming experience in a compact kit that can be played quietly with headphones, the TD-1DMK is an infinitely inspiring instrument that will launch a lifetime of drumming satisfaction and enjoyment’.

The lightweight kit (just 15.5 lb./7 kg,) comes with 15 pre-set kit sounds and Melodics for V-Drums software. Parents will be relieved to hear that ‘…the TD-1DMK’s pads are quieter than other electronic drums too, allowing children to practice for extended periods without limitations’.

Roland JUNO-DS76

The JUNO-DS76 is the latest addition to the popular JUNO-DS synthesiser line-up. Roland says that like all JUNO-DS models: ‘…the JUNO-DS76 features a lightweight design for easy travel, a wide variety of professional sounds for covering any music genre, and support for mobile performing with battery operation. Equipped with a 76-note synth-action keyboard, the JUNO-DS76 is an ideal choice for players who want to expand their musical range with multiple sounds split across the keyboard’.

‘For keyboardists who mostly play organ, synth, and other sounds, the 76-note keyboard on the JUNO-DS76 provides increased playing comfort when different sounds are assigned to the upper and lower note ranges. The keys are also a little longer than a standard synth keyboard, offering a playing feel that’s smooth and consistent no matter where the key is pressed. And with a weight of just 15.25 lb./6.9 kg, the JUNO-DS76 is much more portable than typical 76-note synths,’ Roland adds.

Roland AX-Edge Keytar

Finally, Roland unveiled its AX-Edge Keytar, a performance synthesiser designed to be played in a standing position with a shoulder strap. The AX-Edge features 49 full-sized keys and offers what Roland says is the unique ability to interchange Edge Blades and customise the instrument’s look. Compact and battery operated, models are available in black or white finishes, and the black model features an all-black keyboard. Each AX-Edge model comes with an extra Edge Blade in the box (a silver Edge Blade for the black model and a gold Edge Blade for the white).

Users can customise sounds by wirelessly connecting to the AX-Edge editor app with Bluetooth MIDI. Splits and layers take full advantage of the full-sized keyboard, there’s wealth of effects and thanks to the Tone Remain function, players can switch sounds seamlessly without notes or effect tails being cut off prematurely.
