Ed Sheeran to make his long-awaited return with a “Christmas present” for fans

Ed Sheeran has announced a surprise Christmas release to arrive later today (21 December) – his first new music in close to 18 months.
Sheeran’s last release was No.6 Collaborations Project, his fourth studio album that dropped in 2019. The album was a star-studded affair, with guest stars the likes of Justin Bieber, Bruno Mars, Cardi B, Camila Cabello and many more.
Yesterday (20 December) Sheeran took to Instagram to tease something new, writing: “11am GMT tomorrow. A Christmas present.”

While Sheeran has not officially announced what this mysterious “present” is, UK-based Power Radio might have already let the cat out of the bag. Over the weekend (19 December), it tweeted the 29-year-old musician plans to release a new single titled The Afterglow.
Whether the song will be the entire present, or part of a larger release is still up in the air at this point.

Back in 2019, Sheeran announced he would be taking some time off from music after having been going “a bit non-stop since 2017”.
The singer-songwriter promised then to return with new music “when the time is right,” after he’s “lived a little more to actually have something to write about”.
This year, a copy of the singer-songwriter’s first demo disc, Spinning Man, sold at auction for £50k. The CD consisted 14 songs, performed by a 13-year-old Sheeran; it was one of roughly 20 copies ever printed.
