David Lee Roth takes credit for Van Halen’s solos

David Lee Roth has claimed sole songwriting credit for Van Halen.
In a recent interview with Missouri radio station KSHE 95, the ex-Van Halen frontman  claimed that he wrote every song on the group’s debut album. When asked if he had to seek permission to play Van Halen songs in his new solo act, he said “No. I wrote the songs. I wrote every word you heard, every syllable, every melody. I structured out even the guitar solos on that first album.”
He then went on to describe his creative role within Van Halen. “I wrote those songs, structured those songs,” he continued. “I designed the backgrounds on the stage. I came up with the album covers. I thought of the stripes on the guitar. I’m the one who said, ‘Call it Van Halen.’”
Roth will be taking up residency in Las Vegas with his new band, Horses Of God. According to the singer, his solo act will sound like anything but Van Halen. “Van Halen live is lead-bass-drum. Here we start with three, four guitars, and we bring it with unforgiving attitude. This is not some tribute band,” he said.
Roth recently quashed rumours of a Van Halen reunion. In another interview on Detroit radio station WRIF’s Meltdown show, Roth declared that Van Halen was “finished” and referred to his upcoming Vegas residency as “the next phase”.
Roth and the Horses Of God will perform at Las Vegas starting 8 January at the House Of Blues. For more information and tickets, click here.
