“I could see a good few teary eyes in the room, I’m not entirely sure why”: Newton Faulkner has his trademark dreadlocks shaved off mid-song

“I could see a good few teary eyes in the room, I’m not entirely sure why”: Newton Faulkner has his trademark dreadlocks shaved off mid-song

Folk-rock veteran Newton Faulkner has long been known for his characteristic dreadlocks, so when he decided to shave them off in the name of charity during a recent show, fans in attendance were shocked.
During a recent show at the Islington Assembly Hall, while playing Dream Catch Me – from his debut album Hand Built by Robots – Faulkner recruited his sister to shave his locks off entirely in aid of the Teenage Cancer Trust.

“I had a lot of hair for a very long time,” he writes in a new Instagram post. “So much hair, in fact, that I remember once sitting opposite a small child that was looking me up and down, who when he got to my eyes jumped out of his skin because he didn’t realise he was looking at a human being. I assume he thought I was some type of orange bush indigenous to the London Underground.
“I had been considering shaving my head for a little while and then when we got talking to the Teenage Cancer Trust, I realised that the time had officially come and if I’m going to do it, it’s a great opportunity to help some people that really need it.”
He goes on: “I could see a good few teary eyes in the room, I’m not entirely sure why, but I could feel it in the air, it was an undeniably powerful moment.
“So, now on with the next chapter, a time of new music, for baldly going where no man has gone before, for hats and raising as much money for Teenage Cancer Trust as we possibly can.
“Teenage Cancer Trust does amazing things and has done for a long time. They were the first charity I ever really got involved with, some 20 something years ago and I was so honoured and grateful to be in a position to help. I still am. If you can, please give generously to a great cause.”
