Ibanez revamps AE series acoustics with dual pickups, redesigned preamps and more
Ibanez has announced a refresh of its AE series of acoustics models – adding on redesigned preamps, dual pickup systems, scalloped bridges and an all-new X-M bracing – which is touted to better transmit string vibrations throughout the instrument, from bridge to body.
Here’s a look at two models from the revamped series: the six-string AE325 and the 12-string AE2912.
AE325
Image: IbanezFirst up is the AE325, which combines a solid Sitka spruce top with okoume backs and sides. It has a five-piece neck construction of African mahogany and pau ferro, which is paired to a Macassar ebony fingerboard – decorated with a Wooden Vine inlay.
This model brings along in-house electronics, including a pickup duo: AP11 Magnetic Pickup and T-bar undersaddle pickup, as well as a preamp from Ibanez Custom Electronics with volume and tone controls. The AE325 also builds-in two output jacks – which allow the instrument to output in mono or stereo.
Other hardware appointments include a bone nut, compensated bone saddle and chrome die-cast tuning machines. The AE325 comes in a natural low gloss finish.

Image: IbanezThis 12-string puts together an all-okoume body construction with a nyatoh neck – matched with a dense katalox wood fingerboard. Like the AE325, this model fashions some ornate detailing as well, including a Wooden Vine fretboard inlay and a soundhole rosette of abalone and wood.
With this model, Ibanez opts for a single pickup: the AP11 Magnetic Pickup, running through an Ibanez Custom Electronics preamp with volume and tone controls. Other onboard hardware includes a bone nut, a compensated bone saddle and chrome die-cast tuning machines. This 12-string also comes in a natural low gloss finish – which emphasises the wood’s natural grain.
