Jackson’s new line of American Series Soloist guitars is designed for shredders and metalheads
Jackson is giving its American Series line of Soloist guitars a facelift. Still geared towards “speed, power, and precision”, the new SL2 DX is perfect for thrash punks and metalheads keen to unleash high-velocity riffs at lightning speeds. And it comes in two models, the SL2 DX and the slightly cheaper SL2 DX HT.
Leeds-based hardcore punks Pest Control have served as Jackson’s lab rats for the new SL2 DX range. To demo the new model, the gang run through their 2024 thrash cut Time Bomb. The video showcases exactly what the new model is capable of; thanks to its Seymour Duncan JB TB-4 and ’59 Pickups, the guitar offers a full onslaught of thunderous sounds, from gloriously sparkling treble to raw, mighty low ends.

Built in Fender’s Corona, California Factory, the new iterations of the American Series Soloist series are designed with speedy, nimble fingers in mind. The fretboard is 12”-16” compound radius rolled ebony fingerboard that flattens out up the neck, ensuring no fretting out from the 24 jumbo stainless steel frets.
The fretboard is also embellished with Luminlay glow-in-the-dark side dots that will be particularly helpful for underground basement shows. Not even the dingiest, darkest venues will stop you riffing away on the SL2 DX.
Both models are also 3-piece maple neck-thru-body constructions, with graphite-reinforcement rods to avoid any temperature or humidity-induced warping. Volume and tone can also be tweaked via a pair of dome-style knobs and a five-way blade switch.

In terms of the differences between the models, it all comes down to the bridge. The SL2 DX features a Floyd Rose 1500 Series double-locking tremolo bridge system, which will allow for rock-solid tuning stability throughout even the most aggressive playing. On the other hand, the SL2 DX HT boasts a Hipshot hardtail bridge.
Beyond the inner-workings of the guitar, they really do just look the part. With its dagger-sharp pointy headstock, the SL2 DX really does look like the perfect tool for a thrash-inclined rocker. And its helped by its colour options: the SL2 DX comes in a striking Lemon Ice, Snow White and cool Satin Black, while the SL2 DX HT is offered in just Satin Black and Satin Porsche Gray.
