Way Huge launches the Green Rhino Overdrive MkV, packing the same sound into a smaller enclosure

Way Huge has launched the latest iteration of its flagship green overdrive, the Green Rhino MkV. The new version of the pedal is packed into a smaller enclosure, and comes with a few tweaks to the frequency management of the MkIV.
Retained from the other pedals in the Green Rhino line are the Volume, Tone and Drive controls, which act as you’d expect. The tone control is a passive one that rolls off high-end for a smoother, less biting drive sound.
The change comes in how the two extra controls operate. This time around, the small knob to the left of the tone control adjusts a frequency boost or cut, with a choice of 100Hz or 500Hz available via an internal switch.
The knob to the right of the tone knob adjusts ‘Curve,’ allowing you to tame the pedal’s “roar,” as Way Huge puts it. It reduces how aggressively the pedal works in the high-end, without having to roll off the tone knob and risk your sound becoming ‘wooly.’
The overall sonic characteristics remain the same, with the tried-and-tested Green Rhino tones allowing for thick, all-out distortion or subtle spankiness. It also excels at pushing an amp’s front-end into bright, clear overdrive. The pedal’s enclosure is also the smallest yet, and features top-mounted jacks for compact pedalboard arrangements.
The pedal lists for $129.99. Find out more at jimdunlop.com.
