Does anyone use a pre amp pedal

Just curious because it seems redundant to me if your playing any EBMM bass. Does anyone use a pre amp pedal instead of utilizing the onboard pre amp? I’m looking for a DI box with an amp switch so I can go direct in the PA. The issue is we don’t have any subs and going direct without them gives the bass a harsh tone that is not the natural bass sound. 2 Notes Le Bass pre amp pedal has this switch and I use it with my passive basses but with my Stingrays it colors the tone even when all the knobs are set flat and I don’t think the amp switch works unless the pedal is engaged. Any thoughts on this.

Btw, the Le Bass pedal is a great tube pre amp pedal and I highly recommend it if you are playing anything passive.
