St- vincent sterling pickup issue

The middle pickup on my sterling Goldie is dying. I tried clearing the switch but it didn’t change anything. When I play hard with a pick the sound starts cutting… I’m unsure with what pickup I should replace it with? I thought of putting a 3 way to only use 2 pickups, but I feel like its blasphemy.
