“My right ear lost 80% of its high end”: Joe Bonamassa reveals health update following concert injury
Joe Bonamassa has had to reschedule a show in Shreveport, Louisiana, due to a hearing injury known as acute acoustic trauma.
Bonamassa had to call off the show as he sustained the injury the night prior during his show in Austin, Texas. In a post on social media, he says that his right ear suddenly lost “80 percent of its high end” towards the end of the gig.

Acute acoustic trauma causes sudden hearing loss and is caused by exposure to a high-decibel noise. It can occur after exposure to a single, very loud noise or from exposure to noises at significant decibels over a longer period of time, according to Healthline.
In his post on Instagram, Bonamassa writes: “Last night [22 November] during the latter half of the Austin show at ACL Live (not their fault! A really great venue and crew!) my right ear pretty much lost 80 percent of its high end. For audio folks it approximately ranges from 600 hz to about 12k-ish.
“The advice the doctors both local to Shreveport and my trusted/legendary ENT Dr. Joseph Sugarman in Los Angeles gave me was not to be around any loud noises until cleared to do so again. The diagnosis was Acute Acoustic Trauma. Given that… I feel fine and I am in good voice and playing shape.”
He continues, “The silver lining was being able to spend a few low volume, non amplified, limited ‘right side hearing’ hours with a life long inspiration and friend, and Rock Hall member, Mr. James Burton and his family in Shreveport this afternoon. A national treasure and a world class human being. It was an honour as always. Love you my friend. Again my apologies to folks of Shreveport for having to reschedule.”

The cancelled show is currently predicted to be rescheduled for 2026, though further information is yet to be confirmed. It looks like all other shows on the US Fall Tour should be going ahead as planned.
