NAMM 2020 video: Rob Chapman runs us through what’s new for Chapman in 2020

NAMM 2020: Chapman Guitars has revealed a set of new guitars for 2020, including new signatures for Rob Scallon and Rabea Massaad, and an ML1 celebrating ten years of Chapman. We caught up with Chappers himself at NAMM 2020 to see what’s new for the British brand.
The 10th Anniversary ML1 Pro X will only be available in 2020. It’s loaded with, as were the original ML1’s, Seymour Duncan pickups. It also features the original Monkey Lord neck plate. A departure from the early ML1’s, however, is the intricate quilted top and birdseye maple neck and fingerboard.
We also take a look at the latest Rob Scallon collaboration with Chapman, this time launching three new guitars: a six, seven and eight-string ‘Blackwing’ versions of Scallon’s signature. Scallon said of the winged design: “With inspiration from the ML-7S, I wanted a mahogany body base with similar pickups. But what I love mahogany for its look and tone I didn’t love its weight. So I decided to put swamp ash wings on the side to take off that weight. And that’s where the racing stripe kind of look came from.
I also really love the natural wood look. I found that when friends would come over who didn’t play themselves they would especially like the look of the natural wood guitars. It’s like a classy piece of furniture that happens to sound amazing. Once we had this basic design we knew we needed to make a 6 and a 7 string too.”
Rob also runs us through the new pro range Rabea Masaad signature models, loaded with a signature Bare Knuckle humbucker – and available in standard or baritone scale length.
