The full specifications for both guitars have yet to be unveiled, but we know they will feature Brazilian rosewood fingerboards, korina wood finishes, Murphy Lab ageing and come in a historically accurate brown case with pink plush lining.
Gibson said that the guitars were conceived over a two-year development period and promised them to “100 per cent accurately” recreate the first editions of the Flying V and Explorer, introduced back in 1958.
“We utilised 3D scanning technology to scan multiple Flying V and Explorers (made in 1958) to create the most authentic and identical clones humanly possible,” Cesar Gueikian, Brand President at Gibson, explained in a statement.
The guitars will be available in limited quantities: 19 Explorer and 81 Flying V models. The number of guitars available was chosen to reflect the exact number of each model which shipped in the year of their introduction.
The Gibson Custom Shop 1958 Korina Flying V and Explorer will be available on 27 July. Pricing has yet to be revealed.
Other announcements from Gibson today (15 July) were for a new Original’s Collection Non-Reverse Thunderbird bass guitar, artist models for Jerry Cantrell and Nathaniel Rateliff, as well as the Slash Epiphone collection.
