Robert Fripp and Toyah Willcox are up to their usual antics, this time covering Blondie’s One Way Or Another

For the past few years, Toyah Willcox and King Crimson’s Robert Fripp have tackled a slew of covers on their Sunday Lunch series. From embodying the hip-hop rebellion of the Beastie Boys to covering themselves in cream for Sunshine of Your Love, the pair are constantly finding new ways to re-imagine the classics.
One Way Or Another, the husband-and-wife duo would eventually cover some Blondie. Their latest episode of Sunday Lunch sees the pair charging through the 1981 hit, Willcox’s blonde bob the perfect embodiment of Debbie Harry as Fripp riffs away.

The pair always try to dress for the occasion. From donning boxing gloves to sing Pantera, to covering herself in red paint for Rage Against The Machine’s Killing In The Name Of, Willcox in particular always pushes the boat out. This time, she’s gone full DIY, crafting a leather-look dress out of binbags. Paired with some flashy sunglasses, we’re sure it’s something ’80s Harry herself would love.

Luckily, the antics don’t get too explicit. It’s nothing like Fripp’s near-nude photoshoot for his OnlyFans April Fools joke. Before the bloopers roll, Fripp explains that he is going to make his wife “a tasty meal”.
While Fripp is happy at home keeping up with his Sunday Lunch covers, BEAT are currently on the road to celebrate ‘80s era King Crimson. The tour features two former Crimson members – guitarist Adrian Belew and bassist Tony Levin — along with Tool drummer Danny Carey and guitarist Steve Vai.
Fripp has shared his full support for BEAT on Facebook, even apparently suggesting the name for the project. He has also given his blessing to have Steve Vai fill in for him on guitar. “Steve Vai is the only guitarist who could play my parts”, he wrote.
But Vai is still a little intimidated by the shoes he has to fill. Speaking to Rick Beato, Vai praises Fripp’s unique style “It’s like a guitar orchestration,” he says. “The way that it’s performed is unique to him. As I work on it, I think I can get this, but the thing about Robert is, his guitar playing is relentless. It doesn’t let up… and I don’t know how he does it. He’s a freak of nature, man. His sense of timing; his sense of… there’s no real polyrhythms, [but] it’s all polymetric.”
“I just love the atmosphere it creates, holding tight to it,” he continues. “And then, when the beautiful melody comes on top of it, it brings it right to your living room. I mean, it just makes it so beautiful and accessible.”
