Aaron Dessner pays tribute to Taylor Swift following Folklore’s Grammy win

Aaron Dessner has paid tribute to Taylor Swift following the pair’s co-written lockdown record Folklore winning Album Of The Year at the 2021 Grammy Awards.
The win made history for Swift, as she became the first woman to win Album Of The Year three times in total. The Grammy win perhaps comes as no surprise to some – Folklore arrived to critical acclaim, with many praising its more understated production and the narrative depth present in the songwriting.
Dessner, who also fronts the indie rock band The National, took to Instagram to praise Swift for “restoring” his faith in music, and reflect on the past year of collaboration – in which, on top of Folklore, Swift released Evermore, also co-written with Dessner.

“It has been an incredible journey since Taylor first approached me to write with her,” he wrote. “From the moment she wrote Cardigan last April – she unlocked a creative chemistry between us distinct from anything I’d previously experienced, and it led to the creation of two albums in 6 months that are incredibly dear to me – Folklore and Evermore.”
“Thank you to the Recording Academy for recognizing folklore tonight. Taylor, Jack [Antonoff, Swift’s long-time producer] and I could not be prouder of the work we’ve done together.”
Dessner also thanked his family, Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon and his bandmates in The National, among others. After picking up the award, Swift, Antonoff and Dessner performed a three-song medley of tracks from Folklore and Evermore: Cardigan, August and Willow.
