Some of music’s biggest names have taken to social media to pay tribute to Argentine football legend Diego Maradona, who died yesterday (25 November). He was 60.
Maradona, widely regarded as one of the greatest footballers of all time, passed away after suffering a heart attack at home in Buenos Aires, his lawyer said.
Brian May recalled Queen’s encounter with Maradona in Buenos Aires, while the band were on tour to promote their 1980 album The Game.
“We enjoyed spending time with him when we played Velez Sarsfield Stadium [José Amalfitani Stadium], Buenos Aires in 1981,” May wrote in an Instagram post. “And he came on stage with us, to a massive roar.”
“Too young. So sad. Wish I could have got my heart specialist to him to save him like I was saved.”

“You took us to the highest point in the world, and made us immensely happy,” Fernandez wrote. “You were the greatest of all. Thank you for having been with us, Diego. We will miss you all our lives.”
