Dave Mustaine claims Peter Frampton was “talking out his ass” when he accused Megadeth of damaging a stage
Megadeth have responded to Peter Frampton, who alleged that the thrash metal band had damaged a stage, leading to both camps having to cancel their shows at a Virginia venue.
Both Megadeth and Frampton were set to play at the Virginia Credit Union Live! outdoor venue earlier this month, but were forced to cancel last minute, with both citing “unforeseen” and “unpredictable circumstances”. Later on, Frampton claimed that it was due to bad weather, and also alleged that Megadeth had caused some damage during a soundcheck.

During a show in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Frampton addressed the crowd, stating: “We had a show cancelled the other day because of the weather, and also, Megadeth did a soundcheck I think a couple of days before our show, and after they finished their soundcheck, there was structural damage to the stage,” he claimed, laughing.
“I’m not blaming them – could have been another band – but it looks pretty like it. So, sorry, Megadeth. I had to rat on you,” he added. His statement was shared online, which you can watch below:
Now, Guitar World has shared two statements following his speech – one from Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine, and another from a representative of the band.
“It seems Frampton was misinformed about our show being cancelled,” Mustaine comments. “The decision was purely based on safety. It’s disappointing when someone you admire talks out their ass about you.”
In a longer, more formal statement, the representative adds: “Megadeth did not even get a chance to soundcheck at all in Richmond, Virginia contrary to what Peter Frampton reports.
“Megadeth’s rigger was in the venue’s steel grid system above the stage getting ready to hang the lights when he noticed there was damage to the venue’s grid. He pointed this out immediately to the promoters and the venue.”
It continues, “It was determined that it was unsafe for Megadeth to hang their production or put the band on stage at the risk of in-house grid failure to support the weight of the touring lighting and sound which could fall on the band, crew members, or audience, as it could cause serious injury or death. Therefore, Megadeth, the local promoter, the venue, and booking agents had no other option than to cancel the show.”
Frampton is playing live on 26 September for the City Parks Foundation Dinner and Concert. Megadeth have four remaining shows of their Destroy All Enemies tour.
