Dave Mustaine is not giving in to cancer: “I’m not even gonna let this even scare me”

Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine has said that he has no intention of letting cancer beat him. He also added that he was not going to let his condition “scare me”.
Mustaine was diagnosed with cancer in May, which led to Megadeth cancelling all of their 2019 tour dates, including their own MegaCruise event. However, the axeman released a statement in September saying that he was almost done with his final round of treatment.
Describing his time in recovery, Mustaine was adamant about not succumbing to self-pity. “I wasn’t trying to be like, ‘Oh, boohoo.’ The last thing I wanted to do was go in there and be a puss,” he said in a recent interview with Rolling Stone. “All the stuff I’ve gone through in my life has gotten me prepared to face anything. Even this.”
Mustaine was especially thankful to the support he has received, particularly from his family. He also received words of support from Ozzy Osbourne and Paul Stanley, and even reconnected with former bandmate James Hetfield as well.
“Contrary to what anybody says and contrary to any of the act that we put on, I love James and I know that James loves me and cares about me,” Mustaine said. “You can see that when the moment of truth is here and I’m telling the world that I’ve got a life-threatening disease. Who comes to stand next to me? James.”
Despite not receiving an official green light to tour, Mustaine has announced that he will be rejoining Megadeth for their upcoming European trek, along with Five Finger Death Punch. He has also been busy going over his upcoming book with his co-writer Joel Selvin.
“We’re talking about the making of Rust in Peace. So I’m reliving that and listening to the music. So right now, I’m bleeding Rust In Peace,” Mustaine said. “That’s one of the reasons why I can’t wait to get ahold of my guitar because I’m just so excited and so thrilled that I’ve got this adrenaline stuff that’s going on right now like crazy.”
“No matter what, there’s no way I’m gonna act like I can’t do this. I can do anything if I set my mind to it,” Mustaine stated.
