The bass, as its name suggests, takes after a Stingray bass, with just one humbucker. This runs into the star of the show: an active preamp control panel designed by Darkglass. The preamp has three operating modes: Clean, Alpha (distortion) and Omega (Fuzz). The choice of mode is indicated by the colour of an LED ring around the gain knob of on the control panel: blue for Alpha, Red for Omega and off for Clean.
There’s also a two-band EQ for extra tone-shaping, alongside knobs for volume and gain. The humbucker in question is a Neodymium-magnet humbucker with black pole pieces.
Other specs include a roasted maple neck, 22 frets, a five-bolt neck join and a Vintage Music Man top-loaded steel bridge, plated with a black finish.
The DarkRay comes in two finishes: Granite Stone (satin) or Obsidian black (gloss). Hear it in action with the two demo videos below.
The DarkRay lists for $2,699. Find out more at music-man.com.
