Fender Custom Shop launches limited-edition Mike McCready 1960 Stratocaster

Fender Custom Shop has teamed up with Pearl Jam guitarist Mike McCready on a Master Built Limited Edition recreation of his 1960 Stratocaster.

The guitar recreates the guitarist’s main instrument – the one he’s owned and played over the last 28 years. The guitar can be heard on the band’s debut album, Ten through to last year’s Gigaton.
Designing the instrument involved disassembling the original. This led Fender Custom Shop’s Vincent Van Trigt to discover it was a ‘60 model, rather than a ‘59 as McCready had originally thought.
The Master Built replica is said to match “every detail, curve and scratch” on the original. It features a two-piece select alder body, a flamed maple neck with a 1960 “oval C” profile, and a flat-lam rosewood fingerboard with 21 vintage frets.
Pickups are a set of custom Josefina Campos hand-wound single coils, routed to a control section with a treble-bleed tone capacitor.
Its other hardware appointments shoot for 60s authenticity. Its tremolo and tuning machines are all vintage-styled. It comes in a heavily relic’d sunburst lacquer finish. Each guitar ships with a certificate of authenticity, a deluxe hardshell case, strap and some case candy.
