Fender launches Master Built Esquire in celebration of The Clash’s Joe Strummer

Fender has launched two new guitars in celebration of Joe Strummer, singer, guitarist and lyricist for legendary punk band The Clash: the previously-announced Campfire Acoustic and the new Joe Strummer Esquire.
The signature electric comes in the form of a limited run from the Fender Custom Shop. The Master Built Esquire takes after Strummer’s guitar of choice during The Clash’s London Calling and Combat Rock era, and has been recreated by Fender’s Jason Smith. The guitar replicates the exact details of Strummer’s original, including the racing stripe and “Bourbon Street” sticker behind the traditional three-saddle bridge. The wear-and-tear on the guitar is also recreated with a custom relic finish.
There will be 70 units of the guitar made by Smith available worldwide, with specifications matching Strummer’s 1960 original. Strummer fronted The Clash for its entire existence, from 1976 to 1986. Over that time, they released six studio records and are remembered as one of the most influential punk bands of all time.
Strummer died in 2002 from a previously undiagnosed congenital heart defect. He was fifty years old.
The guitar lists for $15,000 / £14,149 / €15,799, and is available to order now. You can see more photos of the guitar below, and find out more at fendercustomshop.com.
