Five new guitar artists to check out this week

On the hunt for new guitar music? We’ve compiled a list of fresh artists you should be keeping an eye and an ear on. From promising singer-songwriters to bands that are exploding on the scene, here’s a little bit of everything for everyone.
Sinead Burgess
After being introduced to the guitar at a young age, Sinead Burgess hasn’t looked back. The Australian singer-songwriter signed her first record deal as a teenager, but it was really upon her relocation to Nashville that her unique blend of pop, country and rock sent waves through the legendary music scene.

Bones UK

Image: David SolorzanoAs though co-writing a Jeff Beck album with the legend himself wasn’t enough, this London-bred duo are taking the guitar world by storm with their brash, unadulterated industrial rock. And they haven’t even released an album yet. Their self-titled debut only drops in July, but from what we’ve heard so far, it’s gonna be bonkers in all the best ways possible.

This rock outfit may be new, but you’ll notice several familiar faces, especially if you’re a fan of the 90s emo scene. Featuring members of Dashboard Confessional, Further Seems Forever, The Rocking Horse Winner and more, this The Darling Fire are equal parts crashing guitars, emotive lyrics and nuanced storytelling – and their debut album, Dark Celebration, just dropped.

Mary Spender

This guitarist and YouTube star cites Matt Bellamy as a key influence for picking up an old Spanish guitar and singing along. And just like the Muse frontman, Mary Spender now fronts her own band, bringing to fore sensitive folk ballads soundtracked by intricate guitar parts.

Charlie Lim

Singaporean guitarist Charlie Lim isn’t content with being restricted to a single genre. Whether it’s the part of sensitive singer-songwriter, accomplished bluesman or polished electronic artist, this 31-year-old musician has got it all. Lim’s latest album, Check-Hook is an attempt at breaking his creative ceiling, with synths and sampled guitar parts taking the spotlight from his well-honed six-string chops.
