Graham Nash says he has “half an album” of material already done
Singer-songwriter Graham Nash has provided an update on his musical activities while staying off the road and in quarantine amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Nash reported that he had been staying creative, writing new demos while-self isolated, with “half an album” already done.
Speaking with CBS Sunday Morning’s Anthony Mason, the British-American musician confessed that he wasn’t “a very social creature” and has been spending his time in self-isolation working on new music. “I like to stay in my apartment. I like to be making music.” He said, “I’m doing demos. I’ve got half an album already done.”
Nash was in the middle of a solo tour when the coronavirus began escalating to pandemic levels – eventually deciding to postpone the rest of the tour out of safety concerns. “I was five shows into a sold out tour”, he said, “Unfortunately it was getting crazy. I definitely was concerned about my audience, my crew and myself. So yes, very strange times.”
Speculating upon when he would return to performing on the road, the 78-year old songwriter admitted that it felt unlikely until at least the following year. “Obviously I love to perform. I love to communicate, but quite frankly, i don’t see it happening until 2021”, Nash said, “That’s almost another year away.”
This Path Tonight, which released in 2016, was Graham Nash’s last studio album – arriving 14 years after the preceding Songs For Survivors. From his co-founding of seminal English band, The Hollies, in the late 50s, to the formation of Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young (CSNY), Nash’s music career has to this date spanned over six decades.
Earlier this year, CSNY member David Crosby similarly gave his thoughts on creativity during quarantine.
