“I guarantee it”: Sammy Hagar says new music from his Best Of All Worlds band will come
While Van Halen itself is truly done and dusted – it would have been difficult to continue without the legendary Eddie Van Halen – that’s not to say we won’t hear new music from its alumni in the future.
Sammy Hagar – who fronted the rock powerhouse between 1985 and 1996, and again between 2003 and 2005 – is currently on the road on a trek dubbed the Best Of All Worlds Tour, which sees him joined by former VH bassist Michael Anthony, as well as guitarist Joe Satriani, drummer Jason Bonham and keyboardist Ray Thistlethwayte as they play a selection of Van Halen classics and other tracks.

But as he reveals in a new interview on the Bogus Otis podcast, the Best Of All Worlds band are actually eyeing up recording some new music of their own.
“Yes. I guarantee it,” Hagar says [per Van Halen News Desk]. “I don’t know when and why because records don’t sell! [laughs] I’ve made a couple of my best records of my life the last two solo records and they’re lucky to sell 50, 60 thousand [copies].
“You go and make a record nowadays just to lose a couple hundred thousand bucks. It’s all good but, ya know, I need a tax write-off so it really helps. I go, ‘Look it. I made too many this year, let’s go make a record! [laughs]”
Currently, such new music remains a pipe dream, as the idea has simply been floated around. But given the ongoing success of the Best Of All Worlds tour, which began in August and will continue until October, we wouldn’t be surprised if it does indeed become a reality.
In July, Hagar revealed that he’d tried extensively to get former Van Halen drummer and Eddie Van Halen’s brother Alex onboard for the current tour. “We reached out to him a dozen times before this tour, in every way,” he said. “Email, text message, phone call, message on the machine, OK? No response.”
More recently, Hagar proposed that the reason for Alex’s aversion to talking to him is the fact he has a new book coming out in October, Brothers, which he describes as a “love letter” to his late brother.
“I’m sure when he made his book deal, they said, ‘You cannot talk to Dave, and you cannot talk to Hagar,” he said. “I guarantee you, that that was part of the deal.”
Tickets for the ongoing Best Of All Worlds Tour are still available.
