“I guarantee you, that was part of the deal”: Sammy Hagar thinks Alex Van Halen won’t talk to him because of his upcoming book
Sammy Hagar believes Alex Van Halen won’t talk to him because he has a memoir coming out later this year.
Hagar is currently on the Best Of All Worlds tour, which has brought together ex-Van Halen bassist Michael Anthony, drummer Jason Bonham, and guitar virtuoso Joe Satriani to perform Van Halen classics from the David Lee Roth and Hagar eras.

Notably absent from the trek is Alex Van Halen, despite Hagar’s efforts to get him on board. Then again, he has previously noted that he feels Alex “just doesn’t like playing without his brother” and that he doesn’t blame him for feeling that way.
“I reached out to Alex a dozen times, before this tour was announced, and got no response,” Hagar tells the Las Vegas Review Journal. “I mean, I’ve asked him to meet me under any conditions, any circumstances, anytime, anyplace, anywhere. It’s not like, ‘Well, let me think about it.’ It’s like, no answer. Zero.”
He said he would even offer him the chance “to just play a couple of songs, or if you want to be the drummer the whole night, or be the executive producer. What to you want to do?”
On top of that, Alex is set to release an autobiography, Brothers, on 22nd October. It promises to be “intimate and open account” of Alex’s life, in which he “shares his personal story of family, friendship, music, and brotherly love in a remarkable tribute to his beloved brother and bandmate.”
It’s for this reason Hagar suspects Alex hasn’t engaged with him. “I’m sure when he made his book deal, they said, ‘You cannot talk to Dave, and you cannot talk to Hagar,” he says. “I guarantee you, that that was part of the deal.”
