“I managed him and we fell out. I’m too confrontational and pushy for him”: Sharon Osbourne recounts feud with Billy Corgan
Sharon Osbourne has found herself embroiled in her share of feuds over the years – including one with Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan.
Back in 2000, Osbourne resigned as the band’s manager, noting that the reason was medical. What was the diagnosis, you ask? “I’m resigning for medical reasons: Billy Corgan makes me sick,” she explained at the time [via NME]. However, despite their rocky history, Corgan is set to perform at Black Sabbath’s upcoming farewell show.

In a new interview with Metal Hammer, Sharon reveals that the pair settled their differences long ago. “I managed him and we fell out,” she explains. “I’m too confrontational and pushy for Billy. But I still respect him as an artist for what he’s achieved. And he’s an alright guy.”
Considering how heated the original feud was, it’s great to see how far the pair have come. At the time, Osbourne told news agency Reuters that she thought Corgan was too “try-hard”, and would often make his disapproval of Osbourne incredibly obvious.
“If he thought I was a naughty girl, he’d give [me] the silent treatment,” she said [via NME]. “I don’t need games in my life. I don’t need stupid little boys making faces at me.”
Osbourne also went on to call Corgan a “six-foot baldy twat in a dress” in a 2000 interview with Q magazine [via Far Out]. That same year, the Pumpkins also reportedly tried to sue Osbourne, claiming she owed them the $150,000 advance she had been paid prior to her quitting.
Despite their history, Osbourne tells Metal Hammer that she was the one to initially extend the offer. “I said to him, ‘Come and join us,’” she reveals. “He took the invitation gracefully.”
She also adds that Corgan is “a very, very bright, artistic person”, even noting that she enjoyed being interviewed by the Pumpkins frontman last year. “I did his podcast [The Magnificent Others], and he’s a brilliant, brilliant interviewer,” she says.
The podcast episode certainly paints the pair as amicable peers. In fact, Corgan praises Osbourne’s more intense managerial style throughout, noting that Osbourne has done “an incredible job” managing her husband, Ozzy Osbourne.
Osbourne’s work managing Ozzy saw the pair conjuring up Ozzfest together, which has gone down in history as one of metal’s most legendary festivals. “You were very ahead of your time in figuring out that what Ozzy brought to the table,” Corgan said.
Even the traits that initially upset Corgan are now things he seems to respect about her. “You’ve always had a hard-charging, aggressive managerial style,” he expressed at one point. “You were never shy about saying what you felt.”
