Iron Maiden manager calls out “selfish” fans who filmed the band’s show against orders: “I wish you nothing but a very sore arm!”

Iron Maiden’s manager has called out fans who filmed the band’s recent shows in Budapest despite being asked not to, saying he wishes them “nothing but a very sore arm”.
The metal titans kicked off their Run For Your Lives tour on 27 May in the capital of Hungary with upcoming stops scheduled in Copenhagen, Stockholm, Birmingham, Manchester, London, and more.
Ahead of the tour launch, manager Rod Smallwood posted a message titled Put Away Your Phones and Get Ready to Run For Your Lives!, urging attendees to ‘severely limit’ their use of phones during the band’s performance and “be in the moment instead”.
“We really want fans to enjoy the shows first hand, rather than on their small screens,” he said. “The amount of phone use nowadays diminishes enjoyment, particularly for the band who are on stage looking out at rows of phones, but also for other concertgoers.”

Following the tour’s opening night, Smallwood took to Instagram to thank those who respected the request.
“A huge thank you to every one of you who kept your phones down, respected the band and your fellow fans, and embraced the show the way it’s meant to be experienced – in the room with us,” he writes. “That was a great boost for us and the band appreciated it greatly.”
“It is so much better when they can see you unencumbered and that drives them on without that distraction. For the selfish few that didn’t and just had to keep videoing… I wish you nothing but a very sore arm!”
“But they were few, and we do hope this support from fans, especially in the floor area in front of the sound desk, continues in Prague tomorrow and beyond,” Smallwood continues. “As I said before, by all means take the odd quick pic as a memento of a great night, but otherwise please keep your phone in your pocket.”

The debate over allowing fans to film using their phones at live shows has swirled lately, after Swedish rockers Ghost enacted a phone ban for anyone attending shows on their ongoing Skeletour. Fans are required to place their phones in locking Yondr pouches for the duration of the show, which unlock after each show ends.
