Jared Dines succeeds in selling his 18-string Ormsby after auction troubles
Jared Dines, after announcing that he was auctioning off his 18-string behemoth for charity, has sold the guitar – but not without some difficulty along the way.
Shortly after the auction closed, with the winning bid of $16,400 set to be used to buy musical instruments for kids – the top bidder pulled out, saying in a message to Dines “don’t drink and eBay.”
Luckily, Dines has, in the end, managed to sell the custom guitar. It was bought for $20,000 by Philip Kaplan, founder of music distribution service Distrokid. The pair have worked together for several years, collaborating on various projects. As Dines describes, after seeing the unfortunate situation with the eBay auction unfold Kaplan texted him simply saying “I’ll buy the guitar”.
Dines has also seen support come from other companies – Ernie Ball and Rode microphones have donated gear to set up a sweepstakes with 15 prizes. The top prize is the other star of the Djent 2019 video – YouTuber Stevie T’s 20 string guitar.
