Mayer is nearing a deal with Paramount Plus to host Later With John Mayer, a weekly program that will feature “performance segments as well as interviews with musicians, artists and other cultural figures in a setting designed to look like an after-hours club for musicians”, according to Variety.
The show has also been reportedly pitched to various “prospective broadcast partners” and could potentially be tied-in to future Grammy Awards, which are hosted on CBS.
If it does get greenlit, the series won’t be Mayer’s first foray into television. Back in 2015, he guest-hosted an episode of The Late Late Show. And going even further back to 2004, the guitarist appeared on the comedy sketch programme Chappelle’s Show.
Since 2018, Mayer has also been hosting his own talk show, Current Mood, on Instagram Live. More recently, he started a TikTok account where he has since garnered 1.1 million followers.
Later… with Jools Holland launched in 1992 and was ranked number 81 in the British Film Institute’s TV 100 list.
In other John Mayer news, the guitarist revealed on TikTok last month that his latest album is “recorded, mixed and mastered”. All we’re waiting on now is a release date.
