KHDK launches the My Big Fat Rawk, a “dickstortion pedal” that compensates for low gain
KHDK Electronics has officially launched the My Big Fat Rawk, a phallic-themed “dickstortion pedal” that fans at first thought to be an April Fools’ joke. But no, it’s real and it’s been launched alongside some truly filthy marketing copy.
The pedal was conceived by Joe Trohman of Fall Out Boy and comedian Brian Posehn, who KHDK’s David Karon approached and said “I will build whatever you come up with.” The pair then asked “can it be about penises?” and the resulting pedal confirms that yes, it can indeed.
The pedal’s tone aims for the sound of a distorting, treble-boosted amp, and so features a mosfet-based amp distortion after an in-built treble-boosting circuit. The design is rather straightforward, with the Hardness control adjusting the gain, the Shrinkage adjusting a passive low-pass filter, Girth adjusting a pre-distortion EQ and Length adjusting overall volume. The footswitch is placed on a penile silhouette made out of the pedal’s name, printed on white on a pink enclosure.
The footswitch is also helpfully labelled “add ten inches,” which it probably doesn’t do – but instead, according to KHDK, it engages a distortion that “combines aggressive sound and tone-shaping EQ” to “penetrate the mix and push blistering solos and ripping riffs to a powerful tone-gasm.” Self-explanatory, really. KHDK also presented the following catchy tagline for the pedal: “add big size to your little sound, spew high-gain gravy.”
The pedal’s name comes from the similarly-titled My Big Fat Rock, a track of Posehn’s upcoming metal record Grandpa Metal.
The pedal lists for $229.99, and is available to preorder from now until the end of April. Units will then ship 2-3 months after being ordered. Find out more at khdkelectronics.com.
