Lofi Beatles to study/relax to: Fab Four’s music now available as “Study Songs” instrumental mixes

The Beatles have released a new curated collection entitled Study Songs Vol. 1. The EP features six tracks remixed into instrumental versions, and as its title suggests is focused on the more subdued part of the band’s back-catalogue.
The tracks featured on Study Songs Vol. 1 are Because, Penny Lane, Within, Without You, She’s Leaving Home, Something and Golden Slumbers / Carry That Weight. As well as having the vocals removed from the mix, a variety of other tracks are taken out of the equation. For example, Golden Slumbers / Carry That Weight features strings and brass only, Something is only George Martin’s airy string arrangement and Because features the signature arpeggiated guitar but no brassy Moog synth lines.
Within Without You showcases the result of Harrison’s studies with sitar virtuoso Ravi Shankar, and this pared-down mix puts the varied instrumentation up front, and is perhaps the most relaxed of the whole EP. You can take a listen to it below, or stream the whole EP on Spotify or other streaming services.

The ‘Vol. 1’ in the title also hints at more to come.
In related low-energy Beatles music news, last week saw the release of Billie Eilish’s version of Something, which reduces the song down to just piano and voice.
