Ludwig is star attraction at Ronnie’s.
To mark the 100th Birthday of drumming royalty Buddy Rich, Ronnie Scott’s brought the Buddy Rich Big Band and a couple of the biggest names in drumming together for six sold out nights in May. The band featured Dave Weckl, Buddy’s daughter Cathy Rich, Gregg Potter and some of the original band members.
A special edition Ludwig Classic Maple was flown in for the occasion, a faithful duplication of Buddy Rich’s Ludwig kit that caused a storm at this year’s NAMM show, including an original vintage rail consolette, the famous vintage blue/olive badges and a shell mounted cymbal holders.
UK distributor Active Music says that most of these special features can be had by customers designing their own Ludwig shells on the Ludwig configuration generator and ordering from a Ludwig Heirloom dealer.
The specification on the Buddy Rich 100 kit was:
Ludwig Classic Maple Shells – Jumbo White Pearl Finish
24” x 14” Bass Drum with 2 shell mounted cymbal holders
13” x 9” Rack Tom
16” x 16” Floor Toms (2)
14” x 5” Snare Drum
(All shells include vintage blue / olive badges)
Unfortunately, Active says, the custom Ludwig/BR monogrammed music stands are not available.
