Mick Jagger condemns Trump in new song teaser
The Rolling Stones‘ Mick Jagger has joined other musicians who have made their opinions about US President Donald Trump known, sharing a teaser of an upcoming song called Pride Before A Fall.
In the song, the rock icon criticises Trump’s constant use of Twitter, singing: “I see the preening, it’s overweening, overeating, too much tweeting, and when my back is turned somebody will Push you off the wall. And just remember that pride, it comes before a fall.” You can listen to the teaser below.

The Rolling Stones were among the musicians requesting their music not to be played at Trump’s rallies, having served the US President multiple cease and desist directives after he began playing their songs at events on his 2016 presidential campaign. The Stones’ legal team have since started working with BMI, the world’s biggest performing rights organisation, to prevent the President from being able to play their music at any future political events.
John Fogerty of Creedence Clearwater Revival and Neil Young have also requested their music is no longer played at Trump rallies.
In September last year, Mick Jagger also accused Trump of underplaying the seriousness of climate change, writing: “We are in a very difficult situation at the moment, especially in the US, where all the environmental controls that were put in place – that were just about adequate – have been rolled back by the current administration so much that they are being wiped out. The US should be the world leader in environmental control but now it has decided to go the other way.”
Jagger’s song comes as Bruce Springsteen urged fans to vote Donald Trump out, condemning his “nightmare” of a presidency.
Not every musician opposes Trump’s administration, however, with Ted Nugent hailing him as “the greatest president of our lifetime,” at a rally, before encouraging the crowd to “have a good hunting season, kill lots of shit,” and performing The Star-Spangled Banner.
The US election takes place on 3 November.
