In an Instagram post shared on February 6, Marks revealed that he had spent the previous Saturday hanging out with Mars. He then revealed that Mars had allowed him to listen to some of the material coming in his solo album. He wrote, “THANK YOU for having me over and letting me hear your new project…which sounds HUGE. The rock world is in for something weird, special, great and LOUD.”
He added, “Don’t be surprised if you see Mars & Marks on more songs together down the road,” though he did not share if the artists had any concrete plans for a collaboration just yet.
Marks also said that Mars had shared stories of life on the road from his time with Mötley Crüe, noting, “I now know a lot more about Mötley Crüe, Slash, The Rolling Stones, Def Leppard and the on [sic] and only @ozzyosbourne … yes… If you’re wondering Ozzy did snort a bunch of aunts…”

Mars retired from live touring with Mötley Crüe in October last year due to his struggles with Ankylosing Spondylitis, an inflammatory form of arthritis. He was diagnosed with A.S. in his teens and has struggled with the disease for the better part of his career, writing in the band’s 2001 biography The Dirt, “My hips started hurting so bad every time I turned my body that it felt like someone was igniting fireworks in my bones. I didn’t have enough money to see a doctor, so I just kept hoping that I could do what I usually do: will it away, through the power of my mind. But it kept getting worse.”
The 72-year old remains a part of the band, with former Rob Zombie guitarist John 5 stepping in as the group’s current live guitarist.
The topic of a Mick Mars solo album or EP has been hinted at as far back as 2014, with Mars himself telling Eddie Trunk of SiriusXM’s Hair Nation that he had his own solo material that he had been “stashing for a long time”. Mars told Trunk, via Blabbermouth, “I can honestly say that I am going to release at least an EP. As far as a whole album right now, I won’t release a whole album ’till I think every single one of my songs is an ‘A’ song. And I’ve got a shitload of songs, and they’re all ‘B’ songs, ‘C’ songs… I’ll give them to, like, baby bands coming up, TV commercials, movies, soundtracks, whatever the heck, but I will not put them on my record until I believe in my heart that they’re ‘A’ songs, that when you hear them, you have to have all of them.
