“F**k Donald Trump”: Billie Joe Armstrong calls out US president at 4 July show
Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong used their headline performance at Rock Werchter on 4 July to take a swipe at Donald Trump and the current state of politics in the USA.
During the band’s set at the festival in Belgium, which aptly took place on the United States’ Independence Day, Armstrong lead chants of “fuck Donald Trump”, and performed a snippet of the United States’ national anthem, The Star-Spangled Banner.

This isn’t the first time that Green Day have made a stance against Donald Trump, in fact, they regularly shift the lyrics of their huge hit American Idiot to ‘“I’m not a part of the MAGA agenda”.
The chants against Trump took place during the song Holiday, with Armstrong later singing “By the dawn’s early light, what so proudly we hailed, at the twilight’s last gleaming?” from the national anthem before they played Wake Me Up When September Ends.
Earlier that same day, Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill” was signed into law. As per the BBC, in a speech from the White House balcony, Trump celebrated the tax cuts in the bill, and brushed aside the criticism it has faced surrounding its impact on social programmes such as food assistance and Medicaid.

In other Green Day news, a fan was removed from the stage during their show at Luxembourg’s Luxexpo back in late June when they began to play Oasis’ Wonderwall after being invited up to play the band’s typical closer, Good Riddance (Time Of Your Life). Laughing off the moment, Armstrong said “nice try”, as a member of the crew took the fan off stage.
Green Day’s next live show will be at the Ottawa Bluesfest on 18 July – you can view the full list of upcoming live shows via the band’s website.
