PRS expands its Core line for 2021 with two new Narrowfield pickup-equipped models

PRS has expanded its Core lineup for 2021 with two new models. Both of them come fitted with Narrowfield pickups, marking the return of the PRS line of electrics to the Core line.
Narrowfield pickups, due to their smaller size, sense a smaller section of string, giving them a slightly more focused sound than full humbuckers – but still with the two coils for hum-free operation. This combination means their sound resembles that of large single-coils such as P90s.
PRS Studio
The PRS Studio is the brand’s modern take on the HSS guitar. The reworked Narrowfield pickups find themselves in the middle and neck positions, while the bridge pickup is a 58/15 LT Treble humbucker.
The guitar is constructed out of a mahogany body, set mahogany neck and flame maple top. Hardware includes a Gen III PRS Locking Tremolo, and Phase III locking tuners. The rosewood fretboard features 22 frets, and the neck features PRS’ pattern shape.
Controlling the three pickups are a volume knob, a push/pull tone control and a five-way blade switch. These, combined with the three pickups, should mean endless tonal options.
Finish options include Antique White, Aquamarine, Black, Black Gold Burst, Charcoal, Charcoal Burst, Charcoal Cherry Burst, Cobalt Blue, Dark Cherry Burst, Eriza Verde, Fire Red Burst, Faded Whale Blue, Gray Black, Gold Top, McCarty Sunburst, McCarty Tobacco Sunburst, Orange Tiger, Purple Iris and Yellow Tiger, with Cobalt Blue, Eriza Verde and Purple Iris being new for 2021.
The guitar ships in summer 2021, and comes with a PRS hardcase.
PRS Special Semi-Hollow
This semi-hollow features a mahogany body and set neck, with a single f-hole in a flame maple top. The neck features PRS’ pattern shape as well as 22 frets in a rosewood fretboard with bird inlays.
Unlike the HSS configuration of the Studio, this is a PRS Narrowfield take on an HSH arrangement, with the Narrowfield pickup in the middle, a 58/15 LT Treble in the bridge and a 58/15 LT Bass in the neck. Both full-sized humbuckers can be tapped with their own individual mini-toggle switches, and the five-way switch further expands the guitar’s electronic palette.
The guitar comes finished in the following: Antique White, Aquamarine, Black, Black Gold Burst, Charcoal, Charcoal Burst, Charcoal Cherry Burst, Cobalt Blue, Dark Cherry Burst, Eriza Verde, Fire Red Burst, Faded Whale Blue, Gray Black, Gold Top, McCarty Sunburst, McCarty Tobacco Sunburst, Orange Tiger, Purple Iris or Yellow Tiger, with Cobalt Blue, Eriza Verde and Purple Iris being new for 2021.
