Rawson Sparfield’s new Harry Joyce amplifiers let you recreate David Gilmour’s live tone
UK Amplifier maker Rawson Sparfield have announced the Harry Joyce amplifiers, which it says aims to recreate “one of the main [David] Gilmour amp sounds from the classic Floyd tours”.
The 100-watt amplifier head is based on Gilmour’s use of a Hiwatt DR103’s output stage driven by an F2B preamp. Combining the signature preamp/power amp circuitry in one box, the amp provides a powerful, high-headroom clean tone accurate to Gilmour’s stage setup.
The amp head’s design does hint at its Hiwatt roots, while the accompanying Starfinder 4×12 speaker cabinet is built to the same specification as Gilmour’s original cabinets. The cabinet is loaded with four 100-watt 12” speakers providing even more punch and clarity and has seen use by The Australian Pink Floyd for an extremely accurate Gilmour tone.
The Harry Joyce name comes from Hiwatt’s first engineer and wiring contractor, instrumental in creating the amps that would define Gilmour’s guitar sound.
