The latest episode of the couple’s Sunday Lockdown Lunch video series was uploaded to YouTube yesterday (7 March). It began with a title card displaying the #FreeBritney hashtag.
The #FreeBritney movement was started by fans of the 39-year-old pop star who believe her to be the unwilling subject of a conservatorship under her father. A documentary on the subject, Framing Britney Spears has been making waves in the entertainment industry, prompting reactions from stars such as John Mayer.
In last week’s episode of Sunday Lockdown Lunch, the King Crimson mastermind and Willcox were joined by a white snake as they covered the classic Foo Fighters tune, Everlong.
Although Fripp now appears to have warmed up to the idea of recording and publishing these weekly videos, Willcox revealed to The Guardian that he was initially “fucking furious” at the upload of his first viral hit, which involved Fripp in a tutu dancing along to Swan Lake.
“The response was so overwhelmingly positive,” she recalled. “And now, six months down the line, he can see that it was quite an important thing to do, in that it became a shared experience with an audience that needed to be reminded of the beauty of human laughter.”
