“The execution of the plan failed to meet expectations”: Oasis release statement on ticket price drama

Oasis have released a statement following backlash for how their ticket prices raised extortionately for their forthcoming reunion tour.
Tickets went on sale on Saturday 31 August, and very quickly sold out. Thousands were left disappointed after being stuck in large virtual queues, and dynamic pricing reportedly saw some tickets increase from £135 to over £350 on Ticketmaster in response to demand. Tickets were also later listed on resale websites for thousands of pounds over the original price.

Due to such mass outcry, the UK government has confirmed it will look into dynamic pricing, which is currently legal, and the future of the law. Ticketmaster itself also spoke out following the criticism, and claimed the prices were set by the “event organiser”, who “priced these tickets according to their market value”, in a statement reported by the BBC.
Now, Oasis has had their say. As shared by NME, a representative for the band states: “It needs to be made clear that Oasis leave decisions on ticketing and pricing entirely to their promoters and management, and at no time had any awareness that dynamic pricing was going to be used.”
It continues, “While prior meetings between promoters, Ticketmaster and the band’s management resulted in a positive ticket sale strategy, which would be a fair experience for fans, including dynamic ticketing to help keep general ticket prices down as well as reduce touting, the execution of the plan failed to meet expectations. All parties involved did their utmost to deliver the best possible fan experience, but due to the unprecedented demand this became impossible to achieve.”
Following their infamous split back in 2009, and many following years of hope and speculation that the Gallagher brothers would put aside their differences for a reunion, it was officially confirmed in late August they’d reunite for shows across the UK and Ireland.
An official press release also revealed at the time of the announcement that plans were “underway for OASIS LIVE 25 to go to other continents outside of Europe later next year”.
