“The fates aligned”: Electro-Harmonix launches 50th anniversary Golden Small Stone phase shifter – and it’s powered by the “now-obsolete” chip from the original circuit

NAMM 2025: Electro-Harmonix is celebrating 50 years of phase shifting with a limited-edition Golden version of its Small Stone Analog Phase Shifter.
The original Small Stone was powered by the now-obsolete NOS CA3094 chip. In order to capture the authenticity of the original circuit – and the classic phase-shifting sound of the ’70s – EHX recovered a stash of these chips “deep” in its stock room. As the company explains, there were enough chips to make 600 Golden Small Stone pedals.

Aside from the original NOS CA3094 chip and golden colourway, the Golden Small Stone arrives in a wooden box, like Electro-Harmonix’s Sovtek pedals of the 1990s. Elsewhere, each pedal has a laser-etched serial number, certificate of authenticity, and comes in a “regal” velvet bag for easy transport.

“For this funky reissue, we’ve re-created the original 1970s circuit for that smooth and sweet phase shifter sound loved by millions and heard on countless records,” says EHX. “The fates aligned as we approached the 50th anniversary of our original compact phaser, the Small Stone, when we unearthed a stock of now-obsolete NOS CA3094 chips once used in the original circuit. With enough chips in hand to make 600 units, we set out to make an authentic classic with original spec parts in a special-edition golden chassis to commemorate the effects 50-year heritage.”
Additionally, EHX is running a contest in which the winner will receive a Golden Small Stone, plus four other classic pedals from its arsenal. The Golden Small Stone is available now, priced at $300.
