“This is so f**ked up”: Joe Bonamassa shares AI-generated video of him being used to scam fans
Creepy AI-generated videos of Joe Bonamassa are being used to scam fans, the guitarist has shared.
The blues artist has shared an example of one of the deepfake videos to his Instagram page, which shows an AI-generated version of himself talking to a fan. Though it sounds a little robotic, the video also utilises Bonamassa’s voice. Other guitarists, including Gary Holt and Orianthi, have since commented on the video also sharing their surprise and disgust.

The video has seemingly been edited from a clip that Bonamassa posted in 2021, and he has since re-shared the original online. In the AI video, the fake Bonamassa shares a story about a gig he played before finding success. The deepfake also states that the video is not for “a transaction” but rather to prove that he is real, and to proclaim his love to the fan.
In the caption under the video, Bonamassa writes, “This is so fucked up… AI generated designed to mislead and scam people. Please be aware. Thank you to my friend Jimmy Vivino for alerting me. His friend reached out and sent him this. 2025 is a scary time my friends.”

A vast number of musicians have been speaking out against AI, especially its place in music creation. Earlier this year, Queen’s Brian May backed a campaign against AI following potential government plans to employ an ‘opt-out’ model for AI training which would render all previous copyright laws obsolete for the tech, leaving companies free to train on anything unless an artist has made a point of ‘opting-out’.
