Watch: Bruce Springsteen performs a surprise set at the Stone Pony

Bruce Springsteen made a surprise appearance at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park, New Jersey on Saturday (16 November) to perform a two-hour set. The occasion was a private benefit event, attended by only around 400 people, in aid of Boston College. You can watch footage of his closing song, a solo acoustic performance of Thunder Road, above.
For the rest of the set, Springsteen was joined by Bobby Bandiera and his band, as well as E-street Band member Max Weinburg. The two-hour gig included hits from across his career, including Tenth Avenue Freakout, Darlington County and of course Born to Run.
The appearance comes after the release of Springsteen’s latest album, Western Stars, and its accompanying documentary film of the same name.
This isn’t the first time Springsteen has performed at a benefit for Boston College, having done so in 2009, 2010, and 2011. He also has a familial connection to the College, as his son attended there.
