Way Huge’s Atreides is an analogue “Weirding Module” with fuzzy synths galore
NAMM 2021: Way Huge has announced its latest pedal, the Atreides, an eclectic combination of analogue synth and fuzz, with a wide array of parameters to experiment with.
The pedal features four main effects: a synth engine inspired by the 80’s Electro-Harmonix Mini Synthesizer, a built-in fuzz, a sub-octaver and a phaser.
The slider controls let you shape the synth’s envelope, adjust the amount and brightness of the fuzz, introduce up to two octaves of sub-frequency information and set the speed of the phaser. Besides that, there’s a true-bypass footswitch to engage the effect.
When used together, the effects offer a smorgasbord of guitar tones ranging from resonant octave fuzz to fluid, phasing synths.
The pedal is referred to as a “Weirding Module” as a nod to a contraption from the 1984 David Lynch movie adaptation of Dune. In the sci-fi flick, the Weirding Module was a weapon that could turn certain sounds into attacks.
