“We got away with f**king murder”: Mötley Crüe are amazed they’ve never been cancelled on new track

Mötley Crüe have released a brand new track, and it’s all about how they’ve narrowly missed being “cancelled”.
The track arrives as part of a new EP, also titled Cancelled, which landed on 4 October. The body of work marks their first release with John 5 on guitar, since the departure of Mick Mars in 2022.

The EP was produced by Bob Rock and recorded during April 2023. It features three tracks in total, including its titular cancel culture rock anthem, its first single Dogs Of War, and a cover of Beastie Boys’ Fight For Your Right (To Party!), which the band played during a secret show at Underworld in London’s Camden Town back in 2023 under the name of Dögs Of War.
On the new track, the lyrics warn listeners to ‘watch your ass, you might get cancelled’, with a later verse stating, ‘speak your mind, you might get cancelled / Call me trash, burn down my castle / Take a shot, it’s a masquerade / Diggin’ up my dirt on your woke crusade’.
Drummer Tommy Lee spoke about the inspiration behind Cancelled on Bill Maher’s Club Random podcast last year. “There was this article that was like, ‘How did Motley Crue ever not get cancelled?’” he said (via Metal Hammer). “And we were like, ‘Fuck, we’ve gotta write a song about that because we didn’t ever get it.’ We snuck in under the whatever threshold, wherever that was, where we got away with fucking murder.”

Of the release, the band share in a new statement, “It was really great getting in the studio and working on some tracks together. What started out as a couple demo ideas turned into this EP produced by Bob Rock. We look forward to getting back into the studio again soon and writing more new music, as well.”
Mötley Crüe are currently on tour in the US. They will take part in a Las Vegas residency in March 2025.
